TEACHER COACH
(Pending the availability of funds and District Superintendent’s approval)
The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Teacher Coach.

 

DEFINITION: Newark Public Schools seeks a Teacher Coach to provide in-classroom support, professional development, and targeted coaching to help teachers improve their classroom practice. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with expertise in curriculum and peer coaching, particularly in secondary schools, to have a lasting impact on Newark’s students and families. This position may also be responsible for other duties as assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • New Jersey State Teachers Certificate.
  • At least five years of successful teaching as measured by performance evaluations and student data
  • At least one year serving as a mentor teacher or peer coach

  • Outstanding critical thinking skills, including the ability to analyze data, identify trends, pinpoint problems and root causes, and develop innovative solutions.
  • Excellent execution and project management skills, including ability to balance the big picture with detailed steps.
  • Experience in facilitating workshops and training sessions for Teachers.
  • Highly recommended: Bilingual and/or ESL endorsement; and/or special education certification.
  • Letters of reference, which should include one (1) from immediate supervisor.

BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide teachers on site, job-embedded professional development
  • Conduct classroom observations and teacher conferences.
  • Assume an active role as a member of the school leadership team
  • Take an active role in building-level decision making
  • Be responsible for supervising site based mentor teachers
  • Analyze school-wide data
  • Oversee planning, facilitation, and follow-up of collaborative group meetings
  • Team-teach with colleagues, demonstrate model lessons, develop and help implement curriculum
  • Observe and provide peer assistance and coaching towards meeting teacher’s individual goals
  • Coach teachers in effective instructional strategies in a variety of content areas
  • Participate in workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced coursework which further advance knowledge of current trends in effective instructional practices
